An upsell is any additional product, upgrade, or experience a guest can purchase beyond their base reservation — often for something you're already doing, just not yet charging for. Think of it as your way to boost both guest satisfaction and revenue.
Enso organizes upsells into two core categories:
Operational Upsells
Tied to the logistics of the stay — early check-ins, late checkouts, gap nights (extra nights before or after a stay), and mid-stay cleanings. These convert fastest because you're already delivering the service; the only change is monetizing it. They're the best place to start, since ROI shows up within weeks.
Experiential Upsells
Curated experiences and custom upsells that shape the guest's trip — local tours, private chefs, romance or birthday packages, transport, and seasonal add-ons. Also includes extras like spa treatments, equipment rentals (bikes, paddle boards, golf carts), and welcome packages or premium amenities. These take more setup and coordination but differentiate your brand and build guest delight.
How Upsells Work
You can choose to auto-approve upsells or manually review them first.
Visibility depends on several factors:
The permissions set in your Guest Verification — upsells can be displayed before or after guest verification.
Any conditions added to your upsells, such as guest tags and Boarding Pass collected data, to target upsells effectively.
The official booking check-in date (for example, an "Early Check-In" offer won't appear after check-in time).
The status of your connected Stripe account — unresolved issues may prevent upsells from processing correctly.
After a guest chooses an upsell, they must complete payment successfully (including any required 3DS steps and sufficient funds on the payment method). If payment isn't completed, the upsell won't be granted.
💡 Tip: Make sure your Stripe account is active and assigned to the corresponding listing groups to ensure a smooth payment experience for guests.
