Managing SMS Messaging Costs in Enso Connect

Enso Connect allows you to send and receive SMS messages with your guests. These are billed based on message segments, not simply by the number of messages.
โ€‹

  • A single SMS segment is up to 160 characters (including spaces and standard characters).

  • Messages longer than this are automatically split into multiple segments, increasing costs.

  • Certain characters (such as emojis or non-standard symbols) reduce the available character count in each segment, which can also increase costs.

Tips to Reduce SMS Charges

1. Keep messages short

  • Stay under 160 characters whenever possible to keep each SMS within a single segment.

2. Avoid emojis and special characters

  • Emojis and non-standard characters can use up multiple characters per symbol.

  • Stick to standard GSM characters to optimize length and cost.

3. Use WhatsApp where possible

  • Enso Connect also supports WhatsApp messaging, which is often more cost-effective for guest communications.

4. Limit internal team SMS

  • Avoid sending SMS to internal team members in high-cost regions (for example, outside the US).

5. Configure SMS spend controls

  • Enso includes built-in tools to help manage your SMS spend:

    • Spending alerts: receive a notification when your SMS costs reach a set threshold.

    • Spending caps: automatically stop SMS once your maximum budget is hit.
